Hidden cost of football, boxing and impact sports

Head knocks and concussions, once dismissed as a minor setback, can have devastating long term consequences such as memory loss, depression, aggression,  dementia, suicidal thoughts and early death.  These are the hidden dangers of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), a battle that plagues former athletes long after their careers end … long after the roar of the crowd fades. But there is hope on the horizon with a new Brisbane based clinical research project.

The BreatheHope Trust: Pioneering Research for CTE Treatment with HBOT

In a groundbreaking initiative, The BreatheHope Trust has been established to spearhead research into treating CTE using Oxygen Therapy. This effort comes at a critical time when stories are increasingly coming to light of athletes, both past and present, grappling with the long-term effects of repeated concussions and CTE.

A New Horizon in CTE Research

The BreatheHope Trust aims to build upon promising early overseas research suggesting hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) could be an effective treatment for CTE. While initial findings are encouraging, more comprehensive research is needed to determine HBOT’s effectiveness and to establish treatment protocols.

HBOT: A Recognized Treatment with Expanding Horizons

In Australia, HBOT is already recognized as a treatment for 13 different medical conditions, with costs covered by Medicare. The BreatheHope Trust’s research could pave the way for HBOT to become an accepted treatment for CTE, offering hope to those affected by concussion-related trauma.

Supporting the Journey to Discovery

As part of its first phase, The BreatheHope Trust has launched a GoFundMe campaign to support this vital research. Contributions will directly fund the exploration of HBOT as a treatment to delay or modify the effects of concussion head trauma.

About The BreatheHope Trust

The BreatheHope Trust is dedicated to advancing medical research and treatment options for CTE. By focusing on innovative approaches like HBOT, the Trust seeks to bring new hope and relief to individuals and families affected by this condition.
